CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
Our sale catalogue contains a brief description
of each item. This description is for guidance only
- some items are of an age or nature that means
they may not be in perfect condition. Prospective
Buyers should take the opportunity where possible
to attend our viewing to examine items in person
or to contact us prior to the sale with any questions
about an item.
Barnes Auctions does not take any responsibility
for the authenticity, origin or estimated price
of any item. All items are offered for sale as viewed
and without any warranty or claim as to its suitability
or fitness for its apparent purpose, so prospective
Buyers should use their own judgement. All items
are sold as seen. All electrical items are sold
on the express condition that the Buyer ensures
they are examined by a competent electrician before
connecting them to any source of electricity.
BIDDING
Once registered to bid, you are allocated a unique
bidding number for the sale. To place an absentee
commission bid or to book a telephone bid, please
contact Barnes Auctions by email at info@barnesauctions.com
or by telephone on 0208 878 9223 no later than 8pm
on the day before the sale.
The Auctioneer has absolute discretion as to the
increments/amounts by which bidding increases.
The highest bidder as determined by the Auctioneer
is the Buyer. The Auctioneer has absolute discretion
to settle any disputes that may arise and to refuse
bids or to advance the bidding as seen fit. His
decision is final.
PAYMENT
The Buyer’s Premium is the commission paid
to the auctioneer by the Buyer over and above the
final sale price, (the hammer price), of each item.
Our Buyer’s Premium is 15% of the final sale
price for bids and settlement made in person in
the sale room on the day of sale where the item
is collected on the same day, and 18% for all commission,
telephone and online bids, or where the item is
not collected on the day of the sale (the 3% surcharge
covers the additional costs incurred).
Buyers are welcome to pay by major debit or credit
card, American Express charge card, by cash in UK
Sterling (when the Buyer collects in person), by
UK cheque accompanied by a cheque guarantee card
sufficient to cover the total cost of purchase(s)
or by electronic bank transfer.
Please note that Barnes Auctions levies a 3% card
surcharge for payment by credit card / American
Express, to cover third party costs. There is no
card surcharge for debit card payment.
Please note - once the Auctioneer has determined
your bid to be the successful bid, a legal contract
is created and you are obliged to pay for the item.
As the Buyer, you only take ownership of the item
once full payment is made. (In the case of cheque
payment, this is not until the cheque has cleared
even if you have already collected the item). We
reserve the right to hold on to items paid for by
cheque until the cheque has cleared.
Full payment for items bought must be received
by Barnes Auctions within seven days of the close
of the auction. If a Buyer fails to pay for an item
within seven days of the sale, the Auctioneer reserves
the right to cancel the sale and re-sell the item(s)
won. The Auctioneer can also proceed against the
Buyer for breach of contract.
All sales are final and no refunds are given.
COLLECTION OF ITEMS AND SHIPPING
Unless by prior arrangement with Barnes Auctions,
Buyers must collect items within seven days of the
close of the auction. It is the Buyer’s responsibility
to arrange for collection of any item(s) purchased.
Please note – collection is by appointment
only. Buyers must contact Barnes Auctions in advance
of collecting items as the address for collection
is not the same as the venue address of the auction.
Please note that Barnes Auctions only arrange
shipping of smaller items that can be handled by
standard courier. We do not arrange shipping of
larger items such as furniture. If placing a bid
for an item that will require shipping, prospective
Buyers must contact Barnes Auctions in advance of
bidding to determine the cost of packing & shipping.
This cost will be at the Buyer’s expense.
SELLING WITH BARNES AUCTIONS
If a Seller enters an item for sale without a reserve
price, our commission is 20% of the selling price
or £5 (£10 for furniture items), whichever
is the greater. The Seller then receives the balance
by cheque or bank transfer, normally within 14 days
of the auction. Please note that Barnes Auctions
requires settlement in full from the Buyer before
settling with the Seller. If the Seller requests
a reserve price, we charge a £5 advance listing
deposit per item (£10 for furniture items).
If the Seller’s item sells, the Seller then
receives the balance as above plus the deposit is
returned. Barnes Auctions retains the deposit if
the item does not sell.
If an item doesn't sell, the Seller must collect
the item from Barnes Auctions within seven days
of notification from Barnes Auctions that the item
has not sold. Unless by prior agreement, (for example
we may offer to sell the item(s) at a future sale),
items not collected within this time will be disposed
of and Barnes Auctions will retain all proceeds.
Please note that goods entered into our sales are
done so at the Seller’s own risk and that
the seller accepts that Barnes Auctions are not
liable for any damage or loss to items while in
our possession.
Barnes Auctions reserves the right to levy a £10
fee for the collection and transportation of any
item of furniture to our auction room. If applied,
the Seller will be advised of this on entering your
items for sale.
